LIVE LAWYER BASICS:
Q: What is Live Lawyer™?
A: Live Lawyer™ is a secure, online audio/video web conferencing system, with advanced scheduling and security features, to be used only by legal professionals for communications with their clients and other legal professionals. Q: Is Live Lawyer™ easy to use for attorneys?
A: Yes, the Live Lawyer™ system is very simple to use. You do not need to have any extensive computer knowledge or skills. If you are able to visit this web page, then you have all of the computer skills needed to use the Live Lawyer™ system.
Q: Is Live Lawyer™ easy for my clients to use?
A: Yes, all they have to do is login with their username and password, and click the "go to secure online video conference" link. The secure online video conferencing system will them connect them to you, automatically detect their webcam and microphone (if any), and then you and your client have your online meeting. If the client doesn't have a webcam or microphone, they can still see and hear you, and can type and send/receive files.
Q: Do I have to install software to use Live Lawyer™?
A: There is no software to install.
Q: What is required for me to use the Live Lawyer™ system?
A: A computer with Microsoft's Internet Explorer 6.0+ or Firefox browser, and an internet connection of 512 kbps/256 kbps, is the minimum requirement. However,we recommend a connection speed of 1 mbps/512kbps or higher. If you have a DSL, LAN or satellite connection, then most likely your connection speed meets or exceeds our minimum requirements.
You should also have a webcam, microphone and speakers. If you want your clients to see you, you will need a webcam. If you want your clients to hear you, you will need a microphone. The same goes for your clients. However, these are not required. They are only required if you want to have audio or video. For example, if you want your client to hear and see you, but your client only has a microphone, what will happen is your client can hear and see you, and you can hear your client. In any event, even without a microphone or webcam, you can still use the text chat and file upload system, to send and receive files and information securely.
Q: How is Live Lawyer™ different from those free services such as Yahoo and MSN?
A: Yahoo and MSN type programs are instant messaging programs geared for use for chatting with friends. Instant messaging programs normally do not encrypt their communications, as such, any intercepted data could be read, heard, seen, etc.... Also, these programs are usually supported by advertising and have ads on them. In addition, since many people world-wide use them, they are frequent targets for virus and trojan writers. There are many trojans and viruses currently circulating around the web that target these applications, and new ones are created daily. Programs or pcs infected with trojans or viruses compromise the security of communications. That means if your or your client's pc is infected, then your communications ARE compromised.
Live Lawyer™ is not an instant messaging program and does not reside on your pc. Thereby it is not easily susceptible to being compromised by a trojan or virus, that could be on your personal or office pc. Also, all data going to/from the Live Lawyer™ system is encrypted with up to 256 bit encryption. See the FAQ's section on security, for more information in regards to the encryption that the Live Lawyer™ system employs.
Also, with Yahoo, MSN and those sorts of programs, you need to download and install software. With Live Lawyer™ there is there no software to download and install, it works instantly, and automatically detects your webcam and microphone (if any). Live Lawyer™ is incredibly easy to use!
In addition, many companies frequently block the ports that instant messaging programs need in order to connect to the web. This means that when used from work, they often cannot connect. This is not an issue with Live Lawyer™, as we connect through the ports used for web surfing and secure web connections. If a company blocks those ports, they would be blocking internet access for their entire company. Also, many companies employ spyware to intercept all of the data on their network (instant messaging conversations, emails sent and received, web sites visited, etc..) in an effort to monitor their employees. Not to mention, these free instant messaging programs keep chat logs, which can be later subpoenaed. How can you prove that those chats are really chat sessions between you and your client? Anyone can signup for a free instant messaging account and be anybody. If you are using free instant messaging programs and e-mail to communicate with your clients about sensitive information, then you are putting them at risk! This surely will make you liable for malpractice!
With Live Lawyer™, we only allow legal professionals to be members of our system. Your communications are thereby protected by attorney-client privilege (depending on your local laws). In any event, we do not store your communications and all communications sent to/from the Live Lawyer™ system are encrypted.
When you use Live Lawyer™, you are proving to your clients that you care about the security of your communications. For more information about the security Live Lawyer™ employs to safeguard your communications, see the "Live Lawyer™ Security FAQ's" section below.
Q: If my client has a slower than 512 kbps/256 kbps connection, can they still have online meetings with me?
A:
Yes. However, the audio/video will be slow. If this is the case, we recommend that you both use only audio, and/or text and no webcam. Or that the attorney use only a combined webcam and audio, and that the client only transmit audio through their microphone, and disable their webcam.
Q: What do my clients need in order for me to have secure, live audio/video conferences with them?
A: A pc with an internet connection is all that is needed, and a webcam and microphone if you want to hear and see them. You and your clients also need to have speakers connected to your pcs, in order to hear each other. Alternatively, you can use a headset/microphone combination. They are very economical and easy to come by.

Q: Is the Live Lawyer™ system secure?
A: Yes.
Q: How is the Live Lawyer™ system secure?
A: All data submitted to/from the system is encrypted with up to 256-bit encryption. In addition, when there is a conference in session only the lawyer and their client can be in the same meeting. A third party cannot join into an existing lawyer/client conferencing session.
Q: Can someone intercept my data/communications and what would they be able to obtain, if they were about to do so?
A: There is always that somewhere along the line, such as through your ISP, that your data could be intercepted. However, in the Live Lawyer™ system, we encrypt all of the data sent to/from our system. The encryption we use is very strong. We use up to 256-bit encryption. Most all browsers will permit a 128-bit connection and some even higher. Only the really old web browsers and pcs support less than 128-bit encryption. More than likely, your browser will accept 128-bit or higher. When you are in a secure meeting, their is a padlock at the bottom right corner of the web browser. You can click on it and see the level of encryption of the data.
According to verisign, one of the leading providers of encryption for web sites, "128-bit encryption offers 288 times as many possible combinations as 40-bit encryption,
which is equal to approximately 300 septillion (300,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) times
stronger. That is over a trillion times a trillion times stronger. The most common form of
encryption breaking is “brute force” computation, the inputting of every possible variable into
a prompt until the right one comes up. A hacker could theoretically crack a standard 40-bit
encrypted session in less than a day, but doing so would require expertise and an elaborate
setup with a dozen or so computers; for small low-risk businesses, 40-bit encryption remains
safe. For larger organizations, or those particularly concerned with security,128-bit encryption, the preferred security level of government and financial institutions, offers protection that is virtually unbreakable. If a hacker could crack a standard 40-bit SSL session in a day, it would take well beyond a trillion years to accomplish the same thing against a 128-bit SSL session."
Live Lawyer™ is enable to use up to 256-bit encryption, this is an additional trillions upon trillions of times stronger than 128-bit SSL. Jon Hansen, vice president of marketing for AccessData Corp, a computer-forensics software-development company, puts it this way: “There’s a greater probability that the sun will burn out before all the computers in the world could factor in all of the information needed to brute-force a 256-bit key.” Q: Are my live audio/video conferences stored on your server?
A: No.
Q: Can my client and I send files securely to each other?
A: Yes.
